FREEDOM, INTENTION, ACCEPTANCE, GROWTH
These are a few words that stick in my mind after reflecting on this portrait session at Devils Lake.
When planning this concept, I knew I wanted to fully embrace the freedom to create what I wanted where I wanted, and stick to a style that would nourish my photography vision. As I worked to piece together the plan, I knew I wanted to incorporate a few intentional elements and carefully plan our shooting locations based on the setting sun. I envisioned the free flowing skirt dancing in the breeze, and Alora’s fiery red hair shinning in the last bit of golden hour light as the sun set over Devil’s Lake.
The beauty in all of this is accepting and working with the unknowns and using them to grow. The relentless wind’s fierce bite made the skirt hard to control, and the additional time spent with the skirt prevented us from making it to a location we were hoping to end the session. Accepting the conditions and working with what was given pushed me to create and execute a somewhat different vision than initially planned. I’m happy for the creative venture and the subtle reminder to remain flexible with it all.
